Warmest greetings to all of our users!

Wow, it's been a busy three months! Many apologies for the MASSIVE break in newsletters but the only chance I have had to do it is today... and that's only because of a cancellation. Rest assured, time is going in to my calendar to make this happen more often. We love having a nice direct and personal connection to our users, it's really what we're about and it fuels us when we hear your kind words of appreciation (hint hint... there is a new feedback form on the website, click here to access it)

Remember that sessions are generally available at very short notice, Leigh is still (for no good reason!) getting booked much less than I am and for this to be a proper viable longterm career this really must change! He has recently moved to the Derbyshire area so if you have any friends or family that Leigh could reach from there he would be happy as Larry to hear from them :-)

Book a session with Leigh and he will be on hand to assist!

Notifications

Chris will be on holiday between the 14th of May to the 22nd, taking the family on holiday, but anybody wanting some support can still get it from Leigh during that time. You can contact him on 07903 377100 or email leigh@technologymadesimple.co.uk

Apple Announcements coming on 21st of March (This Monday)

Excitement for all the Apple fans out there! There are to be some announcements coming on Monday.

Several products are expected to be showcased at the event, including the new 9.7-inch iPad, the 4-inch iPhone SE, and new Apple Watch bands. There's also a possibility that some Mac refreshes could be announced as the time is right for updates, but there have been no rumors confirming that is the case.

Headlining the event will be the 4-inch iPhone SE and a new 9.7-inch iPad. Rumors suggest the iPhone SE will look nearly identical to the iPhone 5s, but it will include new internal hardware that brings it in line with newer Apple devices. It is rumored to have an A9 chip, an improved camera, and NFC support for use with Apple Pay.

The new 9.7-inch iPad has been referred to as the iPad Air 3, but recent rumors have suggested it may instead be branded as an iPad Pro. The device is said to include many iPad Pro features, like a four-speaker design, a Smart Connector for connecting accessories, and display improvements for Apple Pencil support. It may also be the first iPad to feature a rear LED flash.

Apple also plans to introduce new Apple Watch bands at the event. Existing bands will likely be available in new colors and there may be new product lines, such as a rumored nylon band and a Space Black Milanese Loop.

Apple will be live streaming the event on its website and through the Apple TV.

Look out for the Ranger!

Macs have long been known for their security and in my opinion they are still the most secure personal computers you can get, but something has shaken that reputation recently.

A new type of software for Macs has been developed called KeRanger. Worldwide it has infected very few people and is no longer a real threat now that Apple have essentially neutralised it, but it serves as a warning of things that may come.

KeRanger works like a similar nasty piece of work that infects windows machines called Cryptolocker. It looks for your most valuable files such as pictures and documents and encrypts them which locks them away from you. It then contacts you and holds your files to ransom, asking you to pay a fee to have the files unlocked.

You should not ever give in to these demands, not just because they fund terrorism and the like but also because you can have the upper hand on things like this with one very important tool... Backup! All Mac computers come with the Time Machine backup software built in so there's very little excuse to not be prepared for threats like this. If you are threatened you can just return all of your files from your most recent backup.

The bottom line is:
Back up early, back up often!

And (with the standard plug) if you don't know how to do it or haven't got around to it, get in touch!

Fun technology

This section is for looking at technology ideas that I think are ingenious. It's important to know however that we haven't tested any of these technologies and are not recommending them, just found them interesting!
Using technology for its entire useful life is good for the environment but also means that your old tech which might not be worth much any more can fulfil a job that could cost much more! This video shows a product that lets you repurpose an old smart phone as a security camera.
Display technology keeps getting better and better and LG have found ways of making their displays so thin that they can bend!
This is an amazing video of a group of autonomous drones (not controlled by humans) performing an intricate 'dance'. The technology here is getting so advanced that it seems almost magical.

The last thing we would ever want to do is spam your email address, so this newsletter is supposed to be a monthly (been much less frequent than that recently!) event filled with content designed to inspire and educate our friends and customers, and keep you up to date with what we're working on. Of course if you would rather not receive our monthly freebie, there is a link to unsubscribe at the bottom of this email!
